CONTEMPLATIVE SPIRITUALITY

LED BY LAMON BROWN

The Contemplative Class will seek to provide an environment for spiritual growth, developing the inner life through readings, practices, and sharing while remembering that our individual spiritual growth is for the benefit of the world.

DIALOGUE

FACILITATED BY JEAN THOMASON AND LARRY FITZGERALD

The Dialogue Sunday School class is a diverse group of adults of all ages who explore issues of personal spirituality in an informal and supportive setting. This class will read and discuss several books throughout the year by various authors. The dialogue is always open to new people and new ideas.

GENERATIONS: A WRITTEN SUNDAY SCHOOL

LED BY MARK BURGE

Each week we generate a written conversation about the scripture following the Smyth & Helwys Formations Bible Study curriculum.  The conversation is held over email and initiated by Mark’s personal reflections on the scripture of the week.  Read along and participate in the discussion as much as you would like.

GPS (GIFTS PASSIONS SERVICE)

FACILITATED BY SUE RITTER

The GPS class is a nurturing/supportive group that seeks to explore who God has created each of us to be; to identify our God-given gifts, talents, and passions; to discern how God is calling us to live into our true selves; and to support each other in employing our gifts to benefit others, the church, our communities and our world.

GOD’S LIGHTHOUSE

LED BY GAIL HILL

Class members of “God’s Lighthouse” want to share God’s Light in their families, communities, and world. They follow Smyth & Helwys’ Formation Series for Bible study and thoughtful discussion. They are ready to welcome anyone who wants to visit or join.

IT TAKES A VILLAGE

LED BY JAMIE FURMAN & AMY WOODWARD

Folks in various stages of parenting are invited to this judgment-free, supportive, and spiritually encouraging group of peers. However you have come into the joy and overwhelm of parenting, you are welcome here.

PEACEMONGERS

FACILITATED BY KATHY HOLLIS

The Peacemonger’s class is concerned with living out our faith in the world around us. The class chooses a book to study over a 6-to-8-week period typically related to a social justice issue. In the past, we have studied books on racism, bias, the criminal justice system, the death penalty, gun violence, and environmental justice issues. We are a discussion-based class where all opinions are welcome. This class offers a Zoom connection for those participating from home.

SEEKERS

CO-TEACHERS: ANGELA FERGUSON AND MORGAN PONDER

The Seekers class studies a passage of Scripture each week. Our age distribution gives us a deep well of accumulated experience from which to draw. Participants are not so concerned to arrive at final answers but to help each other work on the important questions that we each face. This class offers a Zoom connection for those participating from home.

YOUNGSTERS

TEACHERS: LLOYD SHELTON AND DON SANDLEY

Don’t be confused. The Youngsters class is for any who feels young at heart. They use Smyth and Helwys literature as a guide for Bible study and always have a lively discussion on how to apply the lessons to everyday life.

YOUNG ADULTS

LED BY JOHN & DONNA CRIDER, PATRICK & SHARON CHAPPELL

The Young Adults class provides BCOC’s growing population of twenty- and thirty-somethings in student or career mode with a platform for asking “Who am I?” “Who is God?” And “Why do my answers to these questions matter?”
